Tanks and Rogues 1.3 Server Mod for Quake III Arena ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The files in this package can be used to run your own Tanks and Rogues dedicated server, listen server or even single player games. To just play the game you actually don't need these files at all. The mod is fully serverside and thus all you have to do is find a server running Tanks and Rogues (TnR) and join it. Installation ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just copy the files into your Quake III Arena or Quake III Arena dedicated server folder (or your client folder if you're not running a dedicated server). The new folder TnR should be next to your baseq3 folder and your quake3 executable, just like a regular mod. Running ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can start Tanks and Rogues through Quake III Arena. On its main menu you pick MODS, TnR and finally LOAD. Alternatively you can start Tanks and Rogues through the commandline. Here are some examples on windows. Start Tanks and Rogues and bring you to its main menu. "quake3.exe +set fs_game TnR" Start a dedicated internet server running a 2v2 CTF game on q3ctf1. "quake3.exe +set fs_game TnR +set dedicated 2 +set sv_pure 0 +set g_gametype 4 +set sv_maxclients 4 +map q3ctf1" Note that if you run a listenserver sv_pure must be set to 0, this is a known bug with some mods of Quake III Arena. I'm sorry. Game Instructions ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are two classes in Tanks and Rogues: tanks and rogues. When you join a game the server will pick a class for you that suits your team but you can at any time choose another class if you would like to. You will then spawn as that new class on the next spawn. But beware, a badly formed team will not be able to complete even the simplest tasks. To choose the tank class press F1 (or whatever you've bound to "vote yes"), to choose the rouge class press F2 (or "vote no"). Note that you cannot choose classes in the warmup mode. You'll have to wait until each team has at least two players, then the Tanks and Rogues game starts. Tanks are slow killing machines armed with rocket launchers and plasmaguns. They can deal a lot of damage but they can also withstand a lot of damage. A powerful shield protects them from most weapons in the world and in addition to that they regenerate constantly. Rogues are fast and agile instruments of precision. They don't have any shields and they don't regenerate by themselves. They have to rely on their team tanks for protection and they receive a bit of health regeneration from them as well when in range. They don't carry heavy weapons but instead they have railguns. That isn't a very good damage dealer either but it can temporarily disable shields and that is very important. This means that the only way to kill an enemy tank is tight teamplay between rogues and tanks. First a rogue must disable the shield and then a tank must quickly hit with enough missiles to kill it. Here's a table of the results of one player shooting at another for different combinations of classes. Attacker\Victim | Shielded Tank | Unshielded Tank | Rogue ------------------+----------------+-----------------+------------- Shielded Tank | nothing | damage | damage ------------------+----------------+-----------------+------------- Unshielded Tank | nothing | damage | damage ------------------+----------------+-----------------+------------- Rogue | disable shield | nothing | less damage The tank has a third weapon, the Team Grenade Launcher, it launches Team grenades which are extremely powerful but doesn't detonate on their own. To make them explode, a rogue must hit them with their railgun. Use the Team Grenade to clean out campers from difficult rooms, your supply is limited though so don't spam them or you'll have to wait for a respawn before you can use them again. Tanks and Rogues is mainly an item less game. Health is replenished through regeneration from friend tanks, rockets are gathered through automatic replenishing when close to a friend rogue and team genades are handed out by friend rouges when you have waited long enough. There is however one item that spawns and can be picked up - the Power Taunt T. It is accompanied by a powerup spawn sound and when you hear it, your team should take care to find it and pick it up before the enemies do since it grants the capturing team one powerful action - the Power Taunt. When activated a large explosion detonates in the middle of your team damaging and killing enemies that were too close. Activating is done through gesturing simultaneosly with your teammates when you are close to each other. It requires delicate timing but looks awesome. When a rogue gives you a rocket you will hear a click like if you were picking up rockets in regular Qukae III Arena. When you get a Team Grenade from your rogue you will hear an alarm-like sound so that you don't miss it.
