Readme.txt Generations .99f has several changes over the previous .99e version. We recommend reading the Generations Arena manual prior to getting started. If you've played Generations .99e please be sure to review the list of changes in the manual (second to last link on the right side in the manual). Files, in alphabetical order by filetype: \manual (folder) \rotations (folder) ** arena.cfg autoexec.cfg * doom.cfg earth.cfg full_ctf.cfg ** gen_ctf.cfg * gen_ffa.cfg * gen_teamdm.cfg * gen_tourney.cfg * hook_ctf.cfg ** motd.cfg * runes_ctf.cfg ** sample_motd.cfg * slipgate.cfg strogg.cfg manual.html * gen.ico pak9_genv99e.pk3 pak9_genv99f.pk3 ** zz_99e_CTF_mappack.pk3 zz_99e_ffa_mappack.pk3 zz_99e_ffa_mappack_fix.pk3 ** description.txt readme.txt (this file) * readme_ctf.txt * readme_ffa.txt * * specifies files replaced with the .99f update. ** specifies new files that were generated by the .99f update. Files that may be created in your generations folder after running Generations the first time: q3config.cfg games.log qconsole.log Please be aware that .99f is and UPDATE to .99e, and .99e must be installed prior. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Generations please be sure that pak9_genv99e.pk3, zz_99e_CTF_mappack.pk3, and zz_99e_ffa_mappack.pk3 are the ONLY .pk3 files left in your generations folder. This is extremely important if you downloaded a .zip version as opposed to using the installer. If you're having trouble getting Generations Arena to work properly please consult the troubleshooting section in the manual. Please take care to not change any settings in the autoexec.cfg file unless absolutely necessary. The most important settings there are as follows: set model visor set team_model visor set headmodel visor set team_headmodel visor seta ui_menuFiles "ui/menus.txt" seta r_maxpolys 8192 seta r_maxpolyverts 32768 seta r_znear 1 seta sv_floodprotect 0 seta g_quadfactor 4 seta g_botsoff "0" The default model assignments are necessary to initialize spectator mode. Generations will remember your model during actual play. the ui_menuFiles insures the menu system loads properly. Do not modify this. r_maxpolys and r_maxpolyverts can be increased, but do not decrease them. These are necessary for particle effects, and especially to insure that the client sees the damaging particles for the new Arena Gladiators' BFG effect. r_znear is forced to "1" in the game itself. This value should never be changed for Generations Arena. g_quadfactor is set to 4 for that "old-school" Quad Damage power. This can be changed but we do not recommend it. g_botsoff is used for internal testing and should be left to "0" during play. If you do modify any of these settings and the game behaves improperly please refer to the above list of default settings to correct them. Known Issues: We're aware that some of the menus do not properly reflect keybindings, specifically the "shoot" menu. If you wish to create custom configs for each class please edit the .cfg file for the appropriate class and modify your weapon binds from there. These files execute every time your class changes, so they will override any bindings you have in q3config.cfg that share the same keys. Please avoid using "model" and "team_model" statements within these files, instead use the menu system to select player models during actual play. We have a system by which models are "remembered" across class changes so that you'll have the same model you last used for a specific class when you change back to that class. If you force a specific model within your class.cfg files you will NOT be able to properly switch models for that class during play. Custom headmodel choices must be specified using the commandline at this time, and are not remembered across class changes. For any other concerns, please see the Generations Arena manual.
